Hello Fellow Youth and Leaders!
We wanted to take this opportunity to
introduce you to the National Association of Pilgrim
Fellowship (NAPF) and Heritage of Pilgrim
Endeavor (HOPE) in case you haven’t attended a conference
before or have no idea what this organization is about. NAPF
and HOPE are the youth arm of the National Association of
Congregational Christian Churches. When the member delegates
have their annual meeting every June, the youth meet during the
same time frame. We usually meet in close proximity to the
delegate meeting. This year, the delegates are in Plymouth, MA
and we are just down the road in Easton, MA at Stonehill
College. Our conference runs from Saturday just after lunch
until breakfast on Wednesday. The conference has followed many
different formats but this year we will be participating in
mission work around Brockton, MA. We are excited about the
opportunity to minister to the community and give youth the
opportunity to experience mission work here in the United
States. Many of our member churches have expressed to us a
desire for such a program as this. We are currently working
closely with the United Way and are expecting great
opportunities in June.
Some details that you may not know can help
you in your planning for this conference:
- Any youth who has completed 8th
grade through 12th grade may attend NAPF.
- Youth High School graduates through
age 26 may attend HOPE.
- Come prepared for Mission work with
work clothes, closed-toe shoes, gloves and a positive
attitude.
- Every youth must complete a
registration online (preferred) or the paper form (enclosed)
and register with the NA office in Oak Creek, WI.
- Youth will be assigned a roommate and
a small group at the conference and are expected to
participate in all activities. One goal of the program is
to facilitate fellowship with all, so youth are often paired
with people they don’t know (yet!).
- NAPF Youth are not required to be
accompanied by a youth leader, parent, or minister at the
conference. We have invited experienced counselors from
member NA churches who will supervise at all times,
participate in all areas of programming and free time, and
lead small groups. All adult staff undergo criminal
background checks for the safety of all participants.
- Adults (ministers, youth ministers,
youth leaders, etc) who do accompany their youth and are not
invited counselors will fill the role of
Counselor-in-Training and will be assigned a lead counselor
as their teammate. CIT’s are an important part of our
program and are expected to participate at all times for all
activities. We welcome all participation. CIT’s will also
undergo a criminal background check for the safety of all
participants.
- All participants are to stay within
the program for the entire duration of the program. No one
is to leave campus or the activities at any time. This is
to ensure the safety and supervision of all participants.
- Shuttle service from the airport is
provided for an extra cost. Information can be found on the
registration form. This is private shuttle service paid for
by the NACCC and only our participants will be on the
shuttle.
Our plan is for all who come to grow
stronger in their own faith walk and to experience the larger
family of Christ by fellowshipping with other Congregationalists
from around the country. We respect the diversity of our member
churches and strive to provide relevant and worthwhile
activities for our youth. If you have further questions, please
feel free to contact either of the Co-Directors or the
Chairperson of the Commission on Youth Ministries.
Peace-
