Piedmont
College,
Demorest, GA
www.piedmont.eduPiedmont is a Congregational liberal arts college offering
instruction in a scholarly, tradition-rich environment. The college
was founded in 1897 and has been affiliated with the Congregational
Christian Churches since 1901. Fully accredited by the Southern
Association of Colleges, Piedmont offers bachelor of arts and science
degrees in 24 areas. The college also awards Master of Arts degrees in
early childhood education, secondary education and public
administration.
The college aspires to be one of the best small liberal arts
colleges in the southeast for the "whole person." The 1,600
students at Piedmont, who represent more than fifteen states and seven
foreign countries, bring a diversity of backgrounds and beliefs to the
college.
In anticipation of its second century, the college is implementing
a building plan that will help it meet its needs for years beyond. The
38,000 square-foot library is part of that plan and contains more than
100,000 volumes with electronic indexing and two modern computer labs.
Also new on campus is the Martens Botanical Center and a fourth
dormitory. Construction is now underway for the R. Hugh Daniel School
of Nursing and for a new athletic center. Construction of a new math,
science and technology center is expected to begin in mid-1999.
The cost of attending Piedmont College is well below the cost of
other private, four-year colleges. This is made possible by endowments
and gifts to the college. Many of them have been given by churches and
individuals from the National Association. Generous support is also
received from alumni and friends of the college. There are a number of
scholarships possible. Special scholarships are available to any
student from a church affiliated with the NACCC. The "Supporting
Church Scholarship" is a renewable, four-year scholarship
available to any student from a NACCC member church.
