Bread of Life Christian Mission was founded in 1993 to respond to
the needs of low-income families in the area. The majority of the
families are migrant farm workers who do not benefit from
opportunities in the community because of language barriers. The
mission has served approximately 2000 families since they first
opened their doors to the community.
The focus of the mission is
to win souls for Christ through the many social services they offer.
Designed to serve the physical, material, and spiritual needs of
individuals or families, the mission hands out Bibles, offers Sunday
worship, and Bible School as well as food, clothing, and household
items.
The mission stresses education and training as a means of
improving impoverished lifestyles. Bread of Life works with children
by offering an after school tutoring program. Shoes and school
supplies are offered to students at the beginning of the school
year. During 1997, a scholarship fund was established and since that
time, five Hispanic high school seniors have benefited from that
fund. English and Spanish literacy classes are offered to adults.
Rev. Santana is a licensed real estate agent and assists families in
the process of buying their first home.
Plans for the future include: Extending the After-school Program
from 2 to 4 days a week. Expanded Adult Learning Center including:
Citizenship & GED Classes, Computer Classes, Drivers Education,
Homeowners Maintenance Workshop, Down Payment Assistance for
First-time Homebuyers, Shelter & Soup Kitchen, Bible Institute, and
Missionary Training Center.
Volunteers with all kinds of skills are welcomed, and urged to
visit and help. Volunteers at the Bread of Life Christian Mission
fulfill the commission to preach the Gospel and respond to Christ's
words: "For I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me
drink; I was a stranger and you received me in your homes, naked and
you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and
you visited me." (Matthew 25:35)
