PROVIDENCE 2004 ANNUAL MEETING - JUNE 26-29th

by Rev. Alice Murphy, Colebrook Congregational Church & Member of the Host Committee

"So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another." Romans 12:5

Due to the tragic fire at The Station Nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island, a little over a year ago, fire laws have been changed in the state and in many other states. How might this influence our meeting? We most likely will find ourselves operating in a more "up close and personal" atmosphere than has been present at other meetings. Carrie Dahm our patient Meeting Planner, Don Bentley, the Moderator of the meeting, and Jim Hopkins, the chair of the Host Committee, have been paying close attention to all the details that have popped up because of the changes in the fire laws that restrict the number of people in each meeting room. Necessary adjustments are being made. Rest assured that all is being done to make the meeting at the Biltmore Hotel one that will be rewarding and worthwhile.

While the adults will be meeting in Providence, the NAPF (National Association of Pilgrim Fellowship) and HOPE (Heritage of Pilgrim Endeavor) meetings will be taking place at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston. Joanne Simpson and Bob Daniels are Co-Directors of HOPE and Rev Mengle and Laurie Odor are Co-Directors of NAPF. They have been responsible for arranging the logistics for these meetings. The theme for NAPF is `Taking the Mountaintop Home." The featured speaker is Peter Vitello, pastor of the Good News Bible Church in Wilton, New Hampshire. The program for HOPE will be "Small Seeds…Big Deeds." The featured speaker for this college age group will be The Rev. Doug Gray, pastor of Second Congregational Church in Beloit, Wisconsin. Both programs are designed to provide food for thought as our high school and college young people continue on their journeys of faith. An Intergenerational Event has been planned for Sunday evening at Yawgoo Bakes. We will share dinner and a time of fellowship. For those who would like to participate in physical activities, there will be opportunities to play bocce, horseshoes and even a little baseball.

Volunteers to serve in various capacities on the Host Committee are welcome as are donations to support the work of this committee. If you would like to offer some time and talent to handle a host task, please contact Jim Hopkins, (401) 884-8986 or jahopkins@ids.net. If you would like to share a little of your treasure, checks can be made out to and sent to Louise Scott, 328 Indian Head Street, Hanson, MA 02341.

Hope to see you all in Little Rhody.
