DRAMA! MONEY! MUSIC! SPIRIT! TEENAGERS! RECONCILIATION!

These are a few of the topics of the workshops this year at the Annual Meeting in Kansas City. Hear Dr Bob Christian and the Worship Team of Waseca, Minnesota tell how they successfully blended traditional and contemporary worship styles in one service. Don’t miss Colleen Murphy of Ohio or Don Bliss of Massachusetts on how to start a drama ministry, or Helen Gierke of Florida on “What do you do with Three Sopranos and a Bass?” Hear what Leo Christian of Massachusetts and Jeff Robie of New Hampshire have to say about mission funding and trips, or go to both. Is it time to review your church by-laws? Listen to Giovan Venable King of California; or for the big picture, hear Thom Christian of Iowa on how to realistically evaluate your church. If it’s your youth program needing renewing, Israel Young of Indiana has some ideas for you. More ideas for worship come from Deborah Nuss of Iowa, in her presentation on Spirit-Led Worship. Cindy Bacon of Wisconsin will talk about the New Congregational Hymnal, Alan Seltzer of New York will discuss the running of a church board, Arthur Rouner of Minnesota will explore reconciliation in the local church, Stu Merkel of Illinois will give us some new ideas on Christian education, Carol and Ralph DiBiasio-Snyder of Wisconsin will teach us about spiritual gifts and Robert Weiter of Missouri will help us make our churches’ accessible to members and visitors with disabilities. Every workshop is a wonderful opportunity to find new and exciting ideas to make your home church even more welcoming and nurturing than it already is—join us in Kansas City!

FOUNDATION NEWS

The Congregational Foundation is emerging from its infancy into toddler-hood. We are approaching the second anniversary in June of its founding by our member churches. As it begins to take its first steps, it has an exciting goal before it.

An anonymous donor has issued a challenge for the Foundation. For every dollar donation we receive, our donor will give us one dollar up to $25,000. It would be a wonderful plus for the Foundation to raise this money and begin to stand on its own. No donation to this matching grant challenge is too small. Please make your checks payable to The Congregational Foundation and designate them for “matching grant fund” in the memo space and send them to the National Association office. Stand by for the results.

“It takes a noble person to plant a seed for a tree that will one day provide shade to those whom he may never meet.”
