ANNUAL MEETING IN MILWAUKEE

by Jamie Green, Host Committee

Where can you see a German band, watch children's theatre, devour Kringle and Gilles custard, listen to Bible lectures, and experience fellowship beneath crystal chandeliers and elegantly decorated, vaulted ceilings?

Guests of the National Association of Congregational Churches' 49th Annual Meeting will attend those events at the Milwaukee Hilton within 35,000 square feet of meeting space equipped with Victorian décor, oak paneling, soaring windows, elegant parlors, and a traditional sense of style, including an exquisite 8,000 square foot crystal ballroom that is greeted by twin spiral staircases. Put this in the middle of downtown Milwaukee, WI -- home of Miller Park, world-class museums, Grand Avenue Mall (170 shops in historic buildings), and a diverse ethnic heritage embedded in dining, festivals, architecture, and attractions. Is this where you will be on June 28-July 1, 2003? Why not?

The 2003 NA meeting is sponsored by all of the Wisconsin Congregational Association Churches in order for Congregationalists across the nation to come to together to praise God and discuss the future of the church. One can take part in valuable seminars, hear dynamic and inspiring speakers, and make major decisions during the business sessions. A church service is held Sunday with a very special sharing of Communion. Camaraderie is a main goal and focus of the NA meeting, for it is the only time throughout the year that the approximately 70,000 members from 436 NA churches in 39 states and two Canadian provinces have the opportunity to come together under the same roof for the same purpose.

While in Milwaukee, make sure to get a taste of what the city has to offer. Experience the city's German heritage by shopping on Old World Third Street, with cobblestone streets and specialty shops. Summerfest 2003, an annual music festival, will be happening June 26 - Sunday, July 6 on 90 acres of fairgrounds on the shores of Lake Michigan. The Downtown Theatre district hosts the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Ballet, and more at the Marcus Center for Performing Arts. Milwaukee is a must-see city, so take in as much as you can while there.

The theme of this year's meeting is "Children are our Future" so even the children get to have some fun. Parents are encouraged to bring children ages 2-14 to share in the wonderful experience of fellowship at the Annual Meeting. On the agenda for the little ones are trips to the Betty Brinn Children's Museum, Milwaukee County Zoo, Milwaukee Public Museum, and even to Paradise Landing, the Hilton's very own indoor water park.

Why miss out on such a wonderful opportunity to see Milwaukee, the Hilton, and your Church family from around the nation? Jesus said, "Where two or more are gathered in my name, there I will be also." (Matthew 18:19-20). Gather together with fellow Congregationalists to share beliefs and experiences, to pray and be with God, in Milwaukee this summer. See you there!
