The September 11th Fund has grown to one hundred thirty thousand dollars, the largest
sum ever contributed to a specific appeal. You, the members of our churches, have been
very generous. Thank you.
The New York/New Jersey Association has been asked to distribute these funds to those
who need it the most. In their diligent effort to be good stewards of your contributions, an
executive committee was established to oversee the fund and charged with the task of
researching various aid agencies and groups that are currently aiding victims of the September
11th attack. Committee membership includes: Jack Baumann - Bound Brook Congregational Church; Mary McCahon -
Church in the Gardens; Liz Mooney - Church in the Gardens; Beryl Mohon - Flatbush Congregational Church and
Nick Terpstra - Congregational Church of Randolph.
The criterion for the fund's executive committee is as follows:
1) The entire amount of funds collected will be kept in one lump sum. It will not be divided among the member churches.
2) The executive committee will use established aid agencies or groups to distribute the funds to those in need.
3) The executive committee will use the following list of qualifications in selecting these aid agencies or groups.
a. The aid agency/group will be checked in the National Charities Information Bureau to insure they are a legitimate organization.
b. The aid agency/group selected should be "locally focused;" they should be groups that are
already working in the area.
c. The executive committee is free to select one or more aid agency/group to distribute these funds.
In addition to the monies given to victims in the United States, the Missionary Society has designated
fifteen thousand dollars, from One Great Hour of Sharing funds, for Afghan Refugee relief through the Mennonite
Central Committee in Goshen Indiana.
Again, thank you for your giving spirit.

AN IDEA FOR CHURCH VISITORS
At a recent meeting, held in a
neighboring Church, one of our executives toured a small "hospitality"
room. On the walls were 8x10's framed photos of their leadership team
members. On the table was a stack of formal invitations. In a basket were beautiful brochures telling
visitors about the Church. Although there for a business meeting, the group
had a visit from a warm and friendly staff person, and then the Senior
Minister. Simple things, but all of them were that Church's way of
saying, "You are welcome here." Just an idea
