FROM MY HEART TO YOURS….

by (Rev. Dr.) Thomas M. Richard, Executive Secretary

Dear Friends,

One of my responsibilities as your Executive Secretary is to promote the Congregational Way among our Churches. It will rise to the top of my list of priorities in 2003, for several reasons.

If it is worth promoting then we need to spend the intensive, intentional, and creative time on developing presentations to fit the various needs and venues available to us. If it is worth promoting then we need to gather a group of laity and clergy to revisit present materials and add new innovative ways to address a tradition whose greatness is almost always spoken of in the past tense. If it is worth promoting then interviews with patriarch and matriarchs of our way, stories of our Churches, and reflections on how life in Christ has infected and affected our appeal on behalf of God to this culture must be lifted up for all to see.

In the last year the messages I have tried to bring to our Churches were around at least these three themes _ let us acknowledge and thank God for the fact that we live by grace; we are God's living billboards (are we actively telling Christ's story and our own); and our time has come to set the light of our way on a lamp stand and stop hiding it as if it has no place in our congregations' life.

We need your encouragement and your assistance in developing other themes which will address our diverse association of congregations.

Grace and Peace

The cards and emails you sent after my brother's death, were so very thoughtful, and the number overwhelming! Thank you so much. When the oldest brother dies, it is especially significant to a family. He was more prepared to go than we were to let him go. But we were sustained, comforted and deeply touched by your prayers.

God Bless You,

Tom Richard
