GREAT IDEAS!
FCC, Anchorage, AK, has a
huge auction, preceded by a catered dinner at a Native American
Cultural Center. "An Evening of
Elegance," black tie and evening dress optional.
FCC, Ashland, NE, has a time and
talent commitment form in their newsletter, asking people to
identify their interests and gifts to be used in the coming
year. We assume they offer this possibility annually, giving people an
opportunity to share their gifts in a number of areas over the years.
FCC, Spencer, IA, put the
names and addresses of their college-age young adults in their newsletter,
asking members to write to them, send cards, care packages, etc.
Christ Community, Anchorage,
AK, has a tradition of what they call their "mission candle," the
lighting of which takes place during an intervention minute of their
worship service. Besides their communion table candles, they
place a large candle on the table, inviting someone
each week to light it just before worship begins, while
sharing a problem or concern that they have. What began as
a way for chemically dependent members to share their stories,
expanded to all members sharing their concerns with a non-judgmental and
loving group. A prayer follows and then their opening hymn.
