INFORMATION SERVICES EXPANDS

by Rev. Dr. Donald P. Olsen, Associate Executive Secretary, Information Systems

At their October meeting, the Executive committee approved funding for a proposal which will bring some major improvements to the information services offered by the NA office. These changes will affect increased information availability and cost savings for the NA office and our member churches. Here are some of the highlights:

• Website hosting will be offered by the office to member churches at their own unique domain name (i.e. www.mychurch.org)

• Email services will be offered to those who host their website with us. This includes unlimited email addresses (i.e. pastor@mychurch.org) and unlimited email list servers (an email subscribers list, usually based on a topic or work project, where subscribers receive all related emails).

• Password protected worksites, like those used by NA Divisions and Commissions will be available to those who host with us.

• The NA Yearbook will be available on-line, including various search features. Churches will be able to update their own church information on-line and have it appear immediately.

• Individual members will be able to access their own password protected account to make contact information updates, corrections and subscription changes.

• Churches may choose to use this on-line membership information system to create their own password protected member listing or church directory. On-line church directories may even include pictures of individual church members.

• All NA functions will have simplified on-line registration available for those who choose to use it.

• Much of the pastoral search process "paperwork" will be moved on-line.

• Minister information forms will be available in coded and password protected websites.

• Clergy seeking a church can update their own form on-line and anytime.

• Clergy can upload additional information for their dossier and include streaming tapes of videos of their preaching and teaching.

• Church Information Forms will also be filled out and viewed on-line and may include additional documents, pictures, audio and video.

• Plus many other features.

Work has already begun on this project. Our plan is to implement the above features one at a time over the next six months with an "Information Systems Grand Opening" display at the Providence, Rhode Island, Annual Meeting in June of this year.
