SHARE YOUR COMMUNICATION SKILLS

The Communication Services Committee announces its annual competitions celebrating excellence in communication among our churches. These contests enable our committee to lift up examples of creative and functional

communication to inspire and inform our whole association. Please submit entries as noted below so your church can be included in our displays.

The 2004 Bulletin and Newsletter Contest marks efforts in written communication. The need to share information through Sunday bulletins and weekly, monthly or other newsletters is still great for our churches. We seek to celebrate those who make the written word sing! Entries are judged for both content and layout.

Bulletin samples should be sent by April 15, 2004 to:

Pamela Smith
318 E. Acacia Rd.
Fox Point, WI 53217

Newsletter samples should be sent by April 15, 2004 to:

Robert Snyder
1529 Treetop Place
Bowling Green, OH 43402

Creative writing, and specifically dramatic writing, can be a wonderful tool to convey information, history and ideas about the Congregational Way. Our annual Playwriting Contest has celebrated a variety of interesting and thoughtful contributions through public performance in reader's theatre at our national meetings. We are pleased that the MacGregor House has offered a stipend for the winner of this contest.

Submissions for the playwriting contest should be sent by April 15, 2004 to:

Theodore A. Flynn
4553 Sancola Ave.
Toluca Lake, CA 91602

With the continuing advancement of electronic communication, the internet is a creative and wonderful tool for our churches. Our Church Website Contest is an opportunity to see the variety and creativity utilized by our churches in this genre. Further information about the contest, and an entry form for church websites, is available at www.naccc.org. Look for the contest logo to enter and share your cyber-skills!

GREAT IDEAS!
Tipton Comm. Ch., thanked all those who helped the youth celebrate a Prison Ministry "Angel" tree. It sounds as though they collected gifts way beyond their expectation!...We note that in Pilgrim (Taunton's) newsletter Susan Thorton mentioned a course at ANT Seminary "Using the Internet to Build Community In Congregations." She should share what she learns with Mass. and NA Churches… "Tidings" from Mt. Dora Cong'l Ch. has a historical piece about the old Congregational "Arts Council" est. in Durham, NH, in 1942. What a great idea! Perhaps it needs to be resuscitated…Glenolden, PA. has a monthly stewardship report in their newsletter. This year they increased their pledges by 12 over last year!...Brokenstraw Parish newsletter had a copy of S.H.W. Bailey's contribution to the Congregational Way Series, a good way to inexpensively copy this excellent series of brochures….How can you encourage youth to live hope-filled lives? Teach them to serve others and be sure to encourage relationships with significant older adults. This from "The Tower," newsletter of Wayne, MI. FCC Second Beloit celebrates that two adults are in the lay ministry training program, along with three from First, Beloit!...In addition to congregational meetings, FCC Kenosha has at least two "listening sessions" a year with open dialogue about what is on members' minds and hearts. Great ideas!
