DON’T MISS DAVID RAY IN KANSAS CITY!

The Congregational Church Development Division is pleased to feature Rev. Dr. David Ray as the presenter of its seminars at this year’s Annual Meeting in Kansas City. The seminars, entitled “Making the Most of a Smaller Church,” will be presented Monday afternoon in the Kansas City Marriott Convention Center.

CCD is pleased to feature Rev. Dr. Ray for many reasons. First, there is his love for the church. As a pastor for more than 25 years, Rev. Ray served churches in the West, Midwest and Northeast. He is currently the half-time Associate Conference Minister for Small Church Development for the Maine Conference of the UCC, and half-time pastor of the Congregational Church (UCC) of Bristol, Maine.

The second reason is his knowledge of a number of church families. Dr. Ray has been a program leader and consultant for more than a dozen denominations throughout the United States and Canada. As a teacher, he has taught for Bangor Theological Seminary, Pacific School of Religion, Claremont School of Theology, Wesley Theological Seminary, Hartford Seminary, Colgate Rochester and Andover Newton Theological School.

The third among many reasons is his love of the “small” church. Most churches in the United States (and most in our association) are small – between 50 and 150 members. While Dr. Ray has worked with churches of all sizes, his particular concern is for the small, and rural, church. A listing of his books reflects his passion and concern: Small Churches are the Right Size (1982), The Big Small Church (1992), Wonderful Worship in Smaller Churches (2000), and The Indispensable Guide for Smaller Churches (2003)!

David has a B.D. degree from Andover Newton Theological School (1969) and a D. Min. degree from Hartford Seminary (1982). He believes that every church is large enough to be and do everything God expects a church to be and do. He also has a gift for assisting smaller churches in seizing their opportunities for faithful and effective ministry.

You can see why CCD’s excited! We hope that you’re excited too! And that you’ll plan to take part in our seminars in Kansas City!
See you there!
Rev. John Carson, Associate Executive Secretary

P. S. Continued thanks and blessings be upon all those who gave – and keep on giving – to OGHS Tsunami relief. We are pleased to report that the Rev. Kenaz Solomon and son, Samuel, of the Travencore Church Council of South India will be the Missionary Society’s guest presenters (along with Rev. Solomon and Margaret Oladele of Christ to the Villages and Ruth and Barbara Branch of Kansas City’s Rebecca Mackish Mission). Your prayers and support of these and other worthy works is greatly appreciated.

P. P. S. ‘Can hardly wait to share my recent visit to the Philippines! Watch for my report on the work of the NACC and CMFEI in next month’s NA NEWS.
