| The National Association has
established a very good program of planned giving, designed to
help both our individual member churches and the Association
itself, and at the same time affording the benefits of such gifts to the
individual members who elect to donate in this manner.
In today's economic climate, having a plan for
giving is as essential to regulate one's charitable
giving as is a plan for other aspects of
business life. Most major colleges, universities, hospitals and other
charitable nonprofit organizations have well established programs and
plans under which gifts can be made to them. They work constantly at promoting gifts from individuals.
(World Vision, for example has 15 individuals who work exclusively in this
area with the result that they develop over $50 million, annually, in such gifts.)
Since 1950 the Association has
been trying to publicize to our members that we have a program for handling Gift
Annuities, and Deferred Gift Annuities, as well as our established Pooled Income
Fund. Periodically, mailings have been sent to our churches and their
members about these programs, and about other aspects of estate planning. We
have materials and personal counseling available for the development of other types of planned gifts. These include Wills with Bequests and
Testamentary Trusts therein, Life Insurance Gifts, and Living Trusts.
We have in the Oak Creek office detailed booklets describing most of
these methods of giving, providing detailed and complete information
on how they work and the benefits they provide. Members of the
Association and its churches have but to inquire and ask that a copy of the
appropriate booklet be furnished to them. As to questions that the
booklets may raise, the Financial Services Committee and its members
stand ready to furnish whatever answers and enlightenment may be
required, or to refer the question to a source than can and will provide answers.
ARE YOU ON A SEARCH COMMITTEE?
The Pastoral Relations Office at
the Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, can help you. The office
will be open all during the meeting. Donald Olsen and his
assistant, Karen Frazzell, will be in the office to help you arrange interviews
with clergy interested in the open position at your church. The office
offers an opportunity to have a small display of your church.
We will be having an open house
so you can be acquainted with Don and Karen and with how the office
can be used to the benefit of your search committee during the Annual Meeting. The open house will be
from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 28. Please come to the Walker
Room on the fourth floor and join us.
