FROM MY HEART TO YOURS….

by (Rev. Dr.) Thomas M. Richard
Executive Secretary

Dear Friends,
Rev. Rob Joy, of the First Congregational Church of Wayne, offered the opening devotional time for the leadership team on Friday morning (Oct. 11th) as we prepared for another day and a half of meetings. His text was the familiar Philippians 4:4-9 "Rejoice in the Lord, always…"

It was an inspiring talk, but I particularly want to quote the final paragraph:

As leaders of our National Association of Congregational Christian Churches, please set the tone for us. Set the tone that recognizes the activity of a life-giving God in our lives. Set the tone that tells each of our member Churches God is alive and is breathing new life into our fellowship. Set the tone that encourages us to take risks, to give our all to the Gospel, because there was one who gave his all for our sakes.

Thank you, Rob. We hear you. We've been hearing that same message from a number of clergy and laity in the past year. You reminded us again that "leadership sets the tone."

Our devotional time ended with a song, the last sentence of which went like this:

Lord God, shake me, wake me, make me a leader in my own way, with gifts you have given, that others might follow you.

Grace and Peace

In addition to their recent request to use the First Thanksgiving painting, commissioned by the NA and on loan to the Pilgrim Museum of Plymouth MA, the museum is also using the painting for an on-line interactive "design you own harvest celebration" program. When the office spoke with Karen Rinaldo about this new use, she was delighted.
