THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE MISSIONARY SOCIETY

by Rev. Dr. Donald P. Olsen,

Executive Secretary (Missions, New Development)

The Missionary Society is the benevolence and missions division of the NACCC. We offer a variety of national and international mission projects for NA churches to support through financial contributions and the first hand experience of the Missionary Assistance Corps trip. These projects come to us from a variety of sources but, most commonly from member churches.

When a mission program makes application to the Missionary Society, it goes through an evaluation process before it is accepted. The evaluation includes at lease one site visit to the mission by the NA Executive to the Missionary Society, an interview with the mission's director and board of directors, recommendation by a sponsoring church or churches and adherence to the following policies:

1) Indigenous leadership
2) A governing structure that is Congregational in nature including a board of directors to oversee the mission's director and expenditures
3) Not subject to any ecclesiastical authority
4) Maintain separate institutional financial records
5) Submit quarterly reports, financial and programmatic, to the Missionary Society
6) Fund raising solicitation must be done through the Missionary Society and not directly to churches or individual
This Missionary Society (MS) also looks to see if the applying mission takes an wholistic approach to Christian mission work, offering spiritual and physical assistance as the context may require. If the mission is approved, it will be placed into one of three categories:
1) Missionary Society Project, which receives regular monthly or quarterly financial support from the MS plus all funds designated by church or individual, is included in MS promotional materials and is required to submit quarterly reports
2) Recommended Mission, which receives all funds designated by churches or individuals and is included in MS promotional materials
3 Recognized Mission, which receives all funds designated by churches or individuals and is maintained on or list of recognized, church supported missions

We continue our dollar for dollar program - every dollar you give goes directly to mission work. All administrative expenses are paid from separate funds which are given for that purpose.

Thank you for your continued support of the Missionary Society and our various projects. By your generous gifts, great things are being done in the name of Christ, around our country and around the world.
