| ANNUAL MEETINGS: HOTELS vs. COLLEGES
|
|
by Carrie Dahm, Meeting Planner |
|
A few 2003 Annual Meeting surveys included requests to hold future Annual Meetings at colleges in order to
save money. After doing a few site visits at colleges and looking at the facts and figures, colleges cost about the same
as hotels. When adding meeting room rental fees (hotels do not charge for this based on the size of our conference)
to the sleeping room and meal charges, the cost is comparable to a hotel.
Also, college meeting rooms will be spread out throughout the campus which can lead to a considerable amount
of walking for each function (we may also be up against weather conditions). In addition, colleges do not have
hotel amenities such as full handicap accessibility, air conditioning, shuttle services, full room service, iron and
ironing boards, hair dryers, coffee makers and an atrium/lounge area where everyone can meet.
The NA office is aware of your concerns and will do our best to keep costs down for the attendees. In the last
two years, we have made suggestions to the Executive Committee about areas where money could be saved and how
it would, ultimately, save or at least curtail the rising costs of our meetings.

2004 YOUTH LEADERS RETREAT
The Youth Leaders Retreat for 2004 will be held at:
Camp Wonderland
9241 Camp Lake Road
Camp Lake, Wisconsin 53109
March 4 to 7, 2004
Camp Wonderland is located near Kenosha,
Wisconsin so people can fly either to O'Hare Field in Chicago or Mitchell Field
in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The camp is within easy driving from either
airport. So, if you prefer a smaller airport, you can choose Milwaukee.
However, the air fare may be higher to Milwaukee.
The camp site has been visited by members of the Youth Subcommittee
and was chosen because it had many advantages over other sites in the
Greater Chicago Area.
The Youth Leaders Retreat promises, as always, to be a wonderful
resource for youth leaders in the NACCC churches. Also, it is always an
advantage to get together with fellow youth leaders to not only fellowship but
learn from one another which is a benefit to all of the churches that decide to
send their youth leader to the retreat.

If every Church gave fair share
($10) per active member in our Churches, we would fund the General
Operating Fund and some needs not presently being met.
