EVERYTHING’S UP TO DATE IN KANSAS CITY! (Part Two)
|
In 2005, close to 500
Congregationalists will converge upon Kansas City for the 51st
Annual Meeting of the National Association of Congregational
Christian Churches. Who knows what significant developments will
emerge from this meeting? What will the historians remember
about our ministry when our time has come and gone? After all,
we seek not just to observe history, but to make history.
Several churches in the Mid-America Congregational Fellowship
are teaming up for this. Our Fellowship is widely distributed
geographically, from a new sister church in St. Louis received
into membership in the NACCC at the Providence meeting, to
Joplin and Neosho, Missouri, to Maple Hill and Hutchinson,
Kansas. We all agree that Kansas City is an excellent site for
the meeting. It is famous for jazz and barbecue. Attractions
include the Science City Museum at the renovated Union Station,
the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the Kansas City Royals
baseball team, and Worlds of Fun amusement park.
The meeting and exceptional accommodations are arranged at the
beautiful downtown Marriott Hotel. The dates are June 26-29.
Mark your calendar! It will be here before you know it.
We’ll see you in Kansas City!

HYMN CONTEST AT PLYMOUTH CHURCH OF THE PILGRIMS:
150th Anniversary Celebration of Henry Ward Beecher’s Hymnal
Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims, Brooklyn, NY, is celebrating
the 150th anniversary of The Plymouth Collection, issued in 1855
from a compilation by the Rev. Henry Ward Beecher. To honor this
innovative work, which first presented text and music on the
same page, a hymn search is underway. Submissions for the text
of the hymn will be accepted until December 15, 2004, and for
the setting of the text from February 15 to July 15, 2005. The
church is seeking a hymn which is majestic, joyful, and
celebrates the qualities of freedom, justice, and courage,
through God’s love, as expressed in the covenant of Plymouth
Church. Prizes of $600 will be awarded to each winner.
For more information: contact hymnal150@plymouthchurch.org or
send self-addressed stamped envelope to The Plymouth Collection
Celebration, Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims, 75 Hicks St,
Brooklyn, NY 11201.
EQUIPPING OUR PASTORS RETREAT
Once again CCD is sponsoring a Clergy Retreat entitled
“Equipping Our Pastors.” Last winter, Rev. Patti Dando Haaheim
led a clergy retreat in Michigan with the desire to help all our
clergy be prepared for revitalization and change that is
inevitable in all our churches. This was very well received and
will be
offered again this winter in Sherman Oaks, California at the
Church of the Chimes. Pastors, we need to be finding educational
tools and supports for one another as we move into the 21st
century and strive to bring renewal and growth to our churches.
Plan now to be part of this retreat, February 1-3, 2005 and find
encouragement and practical helps for your ministries.
For more information call Ruth Mahnke at the NA office,
