| CONGREGATIONAL
FOUNDATION One of our “Acorn Funds” has already grown into
a sturdy seedling! Thanks to the many dedicated supporters of
the Joe Polhemus Endowment Fund for The Congregationalist, this
fund has grown beyond “acorn” status. Over $11,000 has been
collected to make this an established fund in the Congregational
Foundation. Several pledges are still outstanding. If you wish
to make a donation to this fund, please make out a check to The
Congregational Foundation and note “Joe Polhemus Fund” in the
memo space.
There are two funds still in the “acorn stage” (under $10,000).
One is The Rev. Dr. John H. Alexander Fund and the other is the
Providence Fund. The Alexander Fund was created to honor one of
the dedicated founders of the National Association. The
Providence Fund was established to assist churches in sending
delegates to the Annual Meeting. Each fund stands at
approximately $2000. If you would like to make a donation to
either, please send a check to The Congregational Foundation and
note either “Alexander Fund” or “Providence Fund.” in the memo
space. The Providence Fund has helped to partially finance the
participation of a total of nine of our member churches at the
past two Annual Meetings.
We also have an opportunity to match a “challenge grant” for
$25,000. So far we have received $4,200 in matching gifts. We
have a distance to go before the deadline of June 30, 2006. This
grant will become part of the permanent endowment of The
Congregational Foundation. Please consider making a donation to
this challenge. Checks should be made out to The Congregational
Foundation and designated “Matching Grant Challenge.” No
donation is too small. All donations are tax deductible.

In a time
when denominations are being ripped apart by competing
resolutions and stances, Dr. Norman Ream’s words remind us to
take seriously the “different path” that we have elected.
It is the Church’s task to change individual lives and if the
Church were successful in that, it would be accomplishing far
more toward the end of Christianizing society than can be done
with [. . .] resolutions. Those who put their faith in social
action misunderstand the real force for change in society—the
individual.
