WISH LIST FUNDS GRANTED TO THREE IMPORTANT AREAS

1. CCD
This year, CCD received a $5000 "Wish List" grant. We intend to use this grant to further training and offer opportunities for church revitalization and redevelopment; a) underwriting costs for Rev. Carson to attend the Fall Retreat of Massachusetts' Mayflower Ministers; b) underwriting costs of a second-phase Church Revitalization Seminar to be held next year in Southern California, led

by Rev. Patti Dando-Haahaeim on considering challenges, strategies and opportunities for revitalization; and c) offering scholarships for clergy and lay leaders to attend events in their vicinity that focus on church revitalization.

2. CONGREGATIONAL FOUNDATION
A grant of $50,000 was made to the newly formed Congregational Foundation to hire a part-time Director of Development (and to help with travel and administrative costs).

3. DIVISION FOR MINISTRY
A grant of $13,500 was made to DFM to a) to streamline the process of equipping the churches and ministers in the search process; b) create a website which will encourage clergy in dealing with isolation.

*Note: "Wish Lists" is part of a spending plan adopted by the Executive Committee two years ago, and has to do with unrestricted major gifts and bequests to the NA. A portion of each goes into the General Fund, and smaller portions to divisional and other needs outside. Where do these wish lists come from? Divisions, committees, commissions, and staff. When can they be submitted? Anytime. How are they previewed? A sub-committee of the EC reviews requests and final approval is made by the EC.

GREAT IDEAS!

  • The Wisconsin Assoc. is establishing a part-time staff position to enhance the good work they are doing on behalf of their churches.

  • A guest editorial in The Spire, FCC, Kenosha, suggests that the way to measure "significance" is to ask is it obedient, is it done in humility, and does it represent servanthood? Good questions.

  • St. John's, MI, had a fantastic color newsletter in June! They took a survey of people's gifts and are using it to match people in the Church with needs of people in a two-county surrounding area.

  • Pilgrim, Green Bay sent a team of workers to Kansas City (Rebecca Mackish Memorial Missions project) to work during a week in July.

  • At Lake Country Cong'l, Hartland, a young girl in Sunday School decided that she had enough toys so when her birthday came along she suggested that people might make donations to the Heifer Project in honor of her birthday - she raised $154!

  • In June the youth group of Pilgrim, Taunton took part in the "Relay for Life Walk for Cancer".

  • Messiah, Los Angeles, marked out their fellowship hall's roof in a grid of $100 squares on a display, and asked members to buy a square, to raise money for its repairs.

  • Rockland Cong'l, Maine had mission workers staying at their Church. This energetic youth team of 13 volunteered in over 60 sites for 1000 hours of work all around the country!

  • Barkhamstead Center Church, CT had an insert in June's newsletter, asking members to answer strategic visioning questions. Well done!

  • Plymouth, Minneapolis, recently welcomed their "Artist-In-Residence," David Moore, who will work on compositions while at the Church - a Thanksgiving piece for the Senior Choir, an Advent piece for the children's choirs, a Lenten piece for the youth choir, and a Palm Sunday piece for the Senior Choir - through a grant from the American Composer's Forum.
