| WELCOME BACK / LOOKING FORWARD
|
|
by Rev. John Carson, Associate Executive Secretary for Missions, Church Development, and Regional Partnerships |
|
Welcome back!
Hope your summer days were
blessed. By grace, that you had time to rest and be renewed. By grace,
that you found time - for looking back, and forward. For now, the time
has come to turn our summer hopes and dreams to better days, and
greater glories, for the God who gives us life.
Here is what I'm hoping for
For the Missionary Society:
promotion. A better job of sharing the good news of all the projects we
support. Promotions that lift up their works, their hopes and dreams, their
special needs (especially their child sponsorship programs), and teach us how
to help them.
For Congregational Church
Development: innovation. More ways to meet the needs of all our churches.
Not only churches seeking now to grow in love and faithfulness, but
also churches trying to be born. We need to do a better job of teaching our
existing churches all the ways that they can help in founding new
church starts.
And finally, for State and
Regional Associations: connection. Better ways to share each others' news
and needs. More creative ways to focus on shared ministries of
worship, Christian education and mission. And greater and more frequent ways
to come together - in spirit and in prayer - to celebrate the ties that bind.
Again, I say I hope your summer
days were blessed. For now the time has come to turn our summer hopes
and dreams to better days. Please pray with me that God will bless and
use them - use us, too - for greater glory. For the building of His kingdom
and the increase of His Church.
FIFTEEN YEARS OF COMMENT IN THE CONGREGATIONALIST
Joe Polhemus, our former editor is, without a doubt, a "born writer," described so well by
author Catherine Bowen, "For your born writer, nothing is so healing as the realization that he has
come upon the right word." He has used these short editorials to inform, to awaken, to uplift; as well as to investigate
life with God, in an atmosphere of great change, and with an attitude of openness. What a gift! These editorials are
now in print and are great gifts for the religiously inquisitive. Call (1-800-262-1620) or email (naccc@naccc.org)
to order your copy ($5 plus $1.75 postage).
