Chrismons

Chrismons are ornaments created from Christian symbols, which can be used to decorate church buildings during the Advent season. Many Chrismons were first created from Styrofoam, which can break easily with continued handling and storage. Diane Williams, a member of Heritage Congregational Church, Madison, WI, has found a company which makes Christian symbols from birch and maple cabinetry grade wood. A Worldwide Day Celebrating Congregational Singing
In celebration of the 150th publication anniversary of The Plymouth Collection hymnal, the members of Plymouth Church invite churches around the world to sing with them on Sunday, October 16, 2005, to thank God for the gift of congregational song, and to recognize the importance of congregational singing in the worship and life of every church. Please join other churches worldwide by designating one hymn during the worship service to celebrate the gift of song. Plymouth Church will locate participating churches on a world map. If you know that your church will be singing with Plymouth that day, please let us know: Jacque Jones, Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims, 75 Hicks Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201 USA. Historical information: http://www.plymouthchurch.org/our_history_Hymnal.htm; Email - hymnal150@plymouthchurch.

What Can You Do to Help the People of Iraq?

When people ask, “How can I help?” Chaplain Rich Koch replies, “Help the children through Provide School Supplies.” Soldiers and Air Force Personnel pass on packets of school supplies to be distributed by Iraqi authorities (police, soldiers, politicians, civic leaders, etc.). The program thus has an Iraqi face on it, which helps the new leaders assimilate with their people. This program has already been very effective in many areas in reducing violence and creating new outlooks in what it means to build community.
