TONE GREAT HOUR OF
SHARING FOR HURRICANE KATRINA
The Missionary Society is accepting One Great Hour of Sharing
Funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Relief funds will be
distributed through local churches and associations, sponsored
mission projects, the Salvation Army, and Habitat for Humanity.
Donations may be forwarded to: NACCC, P O Box 288, Oak Creek, WI
54154. Checks should be made payable to the NACCC and designated
for OGHS – Hurricane Katrina. And every dollar given for
missions, goes to missions!
At present, we are working with our Alabama churches to help
those displaced by the hurricane who have come to them from
downstate, Mississippi and Louisiana. Through them, we have also
contacted the Piney Woods School, not far from Jackson, MS, and
one of the Missionary Society’s sponsored mission projects, to
help them and their neighbors in need.
In addition, continuing a practice begun in response to the
events of September 11th, 2001, the Missionary Society is making
grants in aid available to local churches and associations as
they respond to those affected by the hurricane in their
vicinity. Grants in the amount of $1000 will be given on request
to churches and associations taking part in relief, rebuilding
and resettlement efforts in their communities. Requests will be
reviewed by members of the Missionary Society.
Beyond those in our church and mission family, we are forwarding
contributions to the Salvation Army as they minister to those
affected by the hurricane throughout the region.
As a National Association of Congregational Christian Churches,
we are limited in what we can do to respond to the particular
needs of local communities. Therefore, we look to our local
churches – their faithfulness, their wisdom and their creativity
– to meet the needs of their neighbors close to home and far
away.
One Great Hour of Sharing works to meet the needs of others –
locally, personally and effectively – when we trust ourselves,
our gifts, and our churches to follow where the Holy Spirit
leads.
