The Panamerican Institute (PAI) in Tijuana, Mexico, one of the NACCC’s global mission partners, has experienced a vibrant and encouraging school year. From academic and athletic achievements to meaningful partnerships in the community, PAI continues to grow as a place where students are supported, challenged, and inspired.
Celebrating Culture and Creativity
At PAI, education goes beyond textbooks. The school incorporates projects that help students explore their cultural heritage and express their creativity.
One recent highlight was the school’s Day of the Dead celebration, where students created traditional altars honoring cultural icons and beloved pets. Community guest judges were invited to evaluate the displays, giving students an opportunity to showcase their creativity and receive recognition from local leaders. Activities like this strengthen cultural identity while encouraging artistic expression.
Student Success in Athletics and Competition
PAI students have also excelled in extracurricular competitions this year. In regional track and field events, a PAI student earned first place in the 1500-meter race at the district meet. Students have also represented the school in a municipal chess tournament involving more than 200 schools and participated in a district oratory contest.
These opportunities allow students to discover their talents, build confidence, and learn the value of perseverance and teamwork.
Building Strong Community Partnerships
The school has continued to strengthen its ties with the broader community. A new partnership with the Autonomous University of Baja California brings university interns to campus to lead workshops in history and literature, enriching the academic experience for PAI students.
PAI has also been accepted into state and municipal civil society catalogs, which will provide access to grants and service discounts. In addition, the school has joined the “Unidos por Tijuana” network, an alliance of organizations working together to improve life in the region. These connections help ensure that the school has the resources and support it needs to thrive.
A Safe and Welcoming Place for Students
For many families, PAI has become more than a school – it is a place of refuge and encouragement. The school welcomes students who have previously faced bullying, abuse, or learning challenges in other educational settings.
Principal Berenice Benítez García continues to pursue specialized training to better support these students, including attending the “Voices Against Bullying” forum. Through intentional care and professional development, the staff works to create a safe, nurturing environment where every child can grow academically and personally.
Growing Enrollment Reflects Community Trust
Families in Tijuana are increasingly recognizing the value of the education and care PAI provides. Since October 2025, 14 new students have enrolled based on recommendations from parents.
Looking ahead, the school’s first-grade class for the 2026–2027 academic year is already full with 31 students, and a waiting list has begun. This growth reflects the dedication of the teachers and staff and underscores the continuing need for PAI’s ministry in the community.
